Is the Musical Biopic dying?

In the past few months we’ve had both Piece by Piece and Better Man come out, only for them both to fail tremendously at the box office.

This isn’t to say they’re both bad movies, it was probably more of a case that both films had budgets that were too big and had stories that weren’t that marketable. Like who asked for a biopic on Pharrell Williams or Robbie Williams?

Musical biopics have been popular on & off for years, with films Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman kicking off the latest trend of musical biopics. A few years later and I’m wondering if the trend is beginning to die out again, and Piece by Piece and Better Man are the beginning of the end for now.

What do you guys think?
