Perforated vs Non Perforated jacket?

Are there any general protection differences between a perforated and non perforated jacket? Ex.... if jackets were identical except for perforated vs non.... is the non perforated jacket safer? In other words... is the perforation compromise the protection of the leather in that area? Id assume a fully perforated jacket may be less protective.. and the holes may make it seem the leather is less thick or as strong as the non perf.

Any thoughts?
