Should I change meds ?

I need help..I have pretty bad anxiety. It stops me from going out or doing what I need to do. I've been on Lexapro for maybe 7 years and I feel like maybe it's not working.. Arent they supposed to bring some sort of relief ? When I go out and I'm in public, I panic badly. So my question is, does that mean they're not working and I should change ? Secondly, I'm scared to change meds due to the symptoms I may get from doing it. How bad is the changeover ?
