Rules for pedestrians walking on road when footpath isn’t available
What are the rules when it comes to pedestrians walking on the road when footpath isn’t available? I live in a relatively new suburb (Donnybrook) where so many people walk home from the station. Unfortunately there is no footpath and when it rains, the areas next to the road are essentially puddles. To avoid that, many people walk on the road. Except they walk parallel to the traffic as opposed to the opposite side (where they can see oncoming vehicles approaching). There are no street lights and oncoming cars have quite bright lights so it’s quite hard to see pedestrians when they are parallel to you as you’re driving. I’m worried someone will get injured as it’s a 80kph road
Edit: to add that I’m speaking from a drivers perspective. Anything I can do for pedestrian safety?
