What are yall making

hey everyone… just here today to get a little insight. I’m gonna try to make this story as short and concise as possible.

So I come from the film industry, but with the political warfare that’s going on in our industry, I’ve been trying to take other career paths… when you work in an artistic field, everyone outside of it consistently tells you how much you should switch over to things like stem or healthcare so here we are.

I spent this entire year, rattling my brain, trying to decide what to do and one of my friends who is finishing up pharmacy school was kind of helping me and mentioned medical scribing! She knows my skill set and after kind of going through it we both figured this could actually be a pretty good job for me….. she then told me about scribe America. She went through Scribe America back in like 2020 and made 15 an hour…. This was in a very small city in the state of Louisiana.

I went through the process, the video interviews, answered all the questions, confirmed the timeline, I was starting to get super excited about doing online training and doing the clinical rotations…. and then they hit me with the job offer $11 an hour. I’m in a bigger city also in Louisiana, and it’s 2024. 😕. I cried. I literally sat there and cried. I was flabbergasted. I’ve seen entry-level front desk positions pay at least 13 😶

also, just wanna throw out there that this job had a capped earning potential b/c the job would go up to $12 after 90 days and then stop and they don’t do overtime, and I wouldn’t be able to change my schedule, takeoff, or transfer for six months to 1 year… getting a second job or something part-time would be impossible … so I would essentially be locked in working all day every day and not making enough from it…i’d be signing up for a financial embargo

So I’m kind of curious:

  • What do the rest of you make and what states are you in?

  • Are any of you in louisiana, if so do you make that little to scribe, and if so HOW do you live

  • Are there any other scribing programs i can go through that MIGHT result in a higher hourly.

I keep thinking about it because I truly was excited to make that career change.
