Why is Ophtho so competitive after the constant reimbursement cuts?

I know the field has a good work life balance, but compared to other specialties like derm or radiology that can also be similarly cush, I'm really struggling to see why it's just as competitive despite falling reimbursement. Is it just relying on it's past reputation?
