Maryland State Employees - how freely do you speak/advocate your politics when you're off the clock?
I tried looking through previous posts and couldn't find much that was relevant to help answer this question.
I totally understand Maryland State Employees don't want to engage with politics in the office because of how divisive it can be. For example, folks at the Department of Natural Resources don't want to talk about the politicization of Climate Catastrophes; they just want to measure the impact and problem-solve. But would a DNR employee feel comfortable going to a public session and voicing their opinion to elected officials?
How comfortable are Maryland State Employees when sharing their political perspectives outside of work?
I've seen some state employees with bumper stickers, hats, yard signs, etc., but do employees feel like they can - for example - publicly support an organization like Planned Parenthood, make public comments at public meetings, or go to a protest without fear of discipline, retaliation, or worse from management?
How much does off-the-clock political engagement impact on-the-clock assessments and evaluations?
