Perils of long commutes for work
Anyone on this sub commute or have commuted from the Eastern Shore to Montgomery County for work? 💀
Remote and hybrid jobs are becoming obsolete, and finding high-paying jobs in the Eastern Shore is limited.
I own a house in the Eastern Shore (I’m a new and first-time homeowner, too!), and despite all the flack it gets, I do love the area - it’s a nice place to live, being close to the beaches and the affordability of the area. Be that as it may, 2-hr commutes each way to a job-site in Montgomery County sounds brutal, even for a high-paying-job. 💀
What have you guys done? I’m considering maybe renting an apartment but then that means extra moo-lah in addition to my current mortgage, and more importantly - I would be away from my wife.
Adulting is hard. 😭
Edit: Wow! thank you to everyone for reading my post and taking your time in leaving a response (I did not expect I’d get this many responses!), I apologize that I won’t be able to respond to every post.
I may still seriously consider the commute if it’s on a limited hybrid basis, or by finding a cheap apartment in the area, in anticipation of potentially moving to the Montgomery County long-term if I end up liking the area, since I do want to start a family and I’ve learned through this sub that Montgomery County has the best public schools, not to mention, closer proximity to art and culture when compared to the Eastern Shore.
Thank you all 🙏
