M4 Mac Mini base model - upgraded from 2014 iMac 5k

Base model Mac mini with 16gb ram. Upgraded from 2014 iMac 5k with 32Gb ram. I was using external SSDs with this.

I have the Mac mini hooked up to 3x dell 4K monitors, and an external thunderbolt NVME SSD using the OWC 1m2.

I was worried about the step down in ram from 32Gb->16gb, but I think the ram upgrade pricing is ridiculous for me so I decided to try it out the 16gb. So far it’s been okay - usually sits around 13gb usage but it has gone into swap memory rarely. However, note my usage is extremely light (it’s all just productivity work, pdfs, lectures, and most of the Microsoft programs like PowerPoint, OneNote, teams, etc etc). I used this as an opportunity to swap back to Safari because Chrome really did put a lot of memory pressure on.

The Mac mini is much faster than my iMac on day to day stuff, even though i had an internal and external SSD on the iMac.

Hope this inspires some ideas for future buyers!
