The start of a few problems on my M1
Hi all,
I don't know too much about computers and Macs, I'm more of a consumer who uses without going too much into the tech itself. So if some of my questions or concerns here come across as quite basic, please excuse me. And thank you in advance for having a look at my question!
I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. 8GB Memory and running Ventura 13.4.1. I have it hooked up to an old monitor that was lying around at home. Display quality of the monitor tops out at 1280x720. I use it coz its a larger screen size and the quality is fine for text work which is what I do.
Since the monitor has only an HDMI connection, I have the M1 connected to the monitor with a 3rd party hub that comes with a pass through electric so I can charge the mac through the 3rd party device, while connected the HDMI cable to it (and through it to the mac).
I also have a logitech mouse connected via a dongle connected to the 2nd USB C.
I use it for basic work -
1) mostly writing using Google Docs, Sheets, and stuff like that
2) Barely any heavy apps - other than Google Chrome. I tend to have 2-3 browser windows open at a time, with multiple tabs running on each of them.
3) I usually have spotify running most of the time
4) Others apps that I may use through the day include Zoom. Most times I'll try and quit an app I don't need to use regularly.
Over the last 2-3 weeks, I've started noticing a couple of things
1) I sometimes feel a mild, electric current when I touch the mac. It doesnt give a shock, but it doesn't seem 'normal' to touch at times
2) the laptop has started lagging for something as basic as typing. Even as a type this post out, every once in a while a few letters will take time to show up
Now, I live in Barcelona and the last month has seen increased humidity levels. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But other than that, nothing really has changed around the laptop.
I did some online reading and from what I could understand, it's important to check the Activity Monitor and the memory usage you can find there. so, I had a look, and it looks like a reasonable amount of memory pressure, but I don't know if its enough to be the cause of the lag. Here are a few pics of the top memory users:
I was hoping someone could tell me what could be the problem, and what I could do to resolve it.
I am a bit worried the electric current and lag could be related, and indicative of a much larger problem. I don't have warranty anymore, so as you can imagine, I'm not looking forward to this.
Thank you, and if there is some other information I need to provide, please let me know!
Cheers,
