Seems like The Silmarillion is more popular than I thought.

So I must say, I wasn't a Lord of the Rings/Tolkien fan. I just never checked any of it out. But I saw The Lord of the Rings anime, War of the Rohirrim last weekend, and I thought it was dope AF. I loved it, and it got me all curious, interested, and excited about Tolkien's IP.

I also love books, especially collecting them. I asked around about what to get and was recommended The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The Silmarillion was mentioned but not recommended as heavily, especially for a beginner. I hear it's not easy to read, and it's more like a Bible of Tolkien's world.

So I figured I'd just borrow a copy from the library to see if I'd like to buy it. I thought I would have no trouble checking out a copy of an old unpopular book like The Silmarillion. I only ever have trouble when I'm trying to check out a new popular release.

But to my surprise, the New York Public Library has 6 e-book copies, and they are all out with 20 people waiting in line for their turn. It would take me almost 2 months of waiting to borrow a copy! Screw that. I don't have the patience. I ended up buying myself a copy along with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

But yeah, I found it quite surprising that I'd have to be placed on a wait-list for months to get a turn at an old book from 1977. It's almost 2025 for crying out loud! I guess The Silmarillion is a lot more popular than I thought.
