Restored My Well-Worn MX Master 2S
I’ve been using my MX Master 2S daily since 2015, and while it still works flawlessly, the exterior was pretty beat up—common issues like the thumb rest rubber cracking, grip disintegrating, and both scroll wheel rubbers wearing out. Very close to replacing with a new MX Masters but instead of replacing it, I decided to restore it.
Restoration Process:
Replaced the rubber grip with leather – This took the most effort. Wet-molded the leather to fit the shape and had to redo it a couple of times to get it right. Trimmed it down carefully for a clean finish.
Sanded all the scratches and repainted the shell & buttons – Went with a fresh black coat.
Upgraded both scroll wheels to metal – Found replacements on AliExpress, and they feel much better.
Replaced the mouse switches – Swapped the old ones for Huano Silent Brown Yellow switches for a quieter, smoother click.
