Free art courses?

I feel like I cant draw without a reference! and even then I dont feel like I do it that well. I heard somewhere that if you study art properly that your drawings really begin to improve and you become less reliant on reference photos. I really want to get better at portraits and sort of just drawing in general. If anyone can reccomend anything I'll really appreciate it, Thanks!
