the curious case of NewJeans

I think it’s safe to say NewJeans will never be what they were meant to be at one point. And looking back at their trajectory it’s incredibly sad. Anyone with eyes and ears knows their debut was revolutionary in kpop, it was something fresh and new after ages of us seeing the same concepts being recycled in an over saturated industry. Looking back at their debut mvs, the songs, the style and the overall concept, I cant help but feel sad about what’s happened. None of this needed to happen at all. Yes MHJ made the group, she established them and was their driving force, but she MESSED UP! Everything was going so well for them in terms of their creative direction and also their popularity. I keep looking back and wondering, why did MHJ plan a whole ass corporate espionage? Like what was the point of it all? It’s not like there was a lack of money or freedom for her. BSH had literally given MHJ free reign over Ador, she was the CEO, what more could one want? No one was even taking credit for her work, so it’s not like she wasn’t getting credit where it was due. She was working in a well established company with her group’s seniors being THE BTS, that connection itself was catapulting her group in other levels of fame. I just keep thinking this never needed to happen, the girls are now gonna be stuck in a never ending legal war and they’ll never gain the same momentum again. And all for what? CEOS come and go, as do creative directors, I don’t think it would’ve been hard for them to find another MHJ for the girls after her departure. I mean best case scenario would’ve been if MHJ wasn’t planning a whole ass coup in the first place (mind you for literally no reason but GREED). It’s a sad story. To top it all off, I cant even see the girls the same way anymore. The way they’ve been backing up MHJ has created such an awful image of them in my head and it’s sad because I genuinely loved this group so much at one point. I’ll keep wondering why a group so successful managed to shoot themselves in the foot to defend someone who was clearly way in over their head.
