Hypocrisy and Kpop
I recently came across the Isaac Dunbar/Olivia Marsh fiasco on twitter, where essentially Isaac Dunbar is accusing Olivia Marsh of plagiarizing his song. I am not going to speak to the strength of the plagiarism accusations because I honestly know nothing about music plagiarism and I am not going to pretend to know what I am talking about. However, what gets me, and what I am going to mention is the reaction of NJ fans to this accusation.
OH MY F-ING GOD
The audacity is actually astounding and baffling. Like part of me is beyond infuriated after reading the reactions and the other part of me is just genuinely curious as to how some people can have such low self-awareness. After his accusations came out, tokkis on twitter started mentioning how we should have taken legal recourse instead of making a public announcement. The same group that cheered on MHJ as she wiped down her crocodile tears at press conferences is now asking someone else to keep it hushed and just take legal action. The same group of fans that have attempted to paint HYBE and everyone in HYBE, including the salaried workers, as this big bad that is going against a bunch of defenseless girls, is now unashamedly trying to silence an independent artist. Like I am not even kidding when I say that I keep flip-flopping between anger and just plain shock. This entire ordeal is so insulting to both the artist, Isaac, and the many groups that were harassed by both MHJ, NJ, their families and tokkis these past few months. And it perfectly shows that all you need is popularity to ensure that you are beyond reproach.
And I know that this topic has already been harped upon repeatedly and that reddit is indeed very critical of MHJ and NJ. But I think the reasoning as to why the this MHJ/NJ/HYBE drama is such a triggering topic is because of the little things that surround this case like this Isaac Dunbar drama, the ILLIT manager drama, and the NA assembly and the fact that twitter is so pro-NJ. The hypocrisy is so blatant on there and the reactions are so cruel that you simply cannot afford even an ounce of sympathy to MHJ and NJ. I remember how sad I was for the new ADOR CEO after learning that she had broken down crying in a meeting, only for people to bully her on the internet about her looks. And while I don't stand for people wishing either parties death over this or just calling them derogatory names, I think it's also very telling that the people that claim to be impartial and simply want to defend the girls from unnecessary hate, never seem to mention the amount of vitriol that the people on the HYBE side gets. Many of you try to paint it as just a faceless company vs NJ but there are real people on HYBE's side of this ordeal that are being affected. And these people don't have a legion of fans to protect them. They don't have the money or the reach/connections to defend themselves. Trying to label anyone who doesn't side with NJ as a company stan is just a tactic to avoid acknowledging these people and the harm that this issue has caused them. And I am including ILLIT in this of course because they didn't even have the chance to accumulate a fanbase to defend them before they were targeted by these accusations.
That's all. I just needed to rant for a bit.
