Does aokigahara have hours of operation? Or is it just a forest you can visit whenever?

My wife and I are planning a road trip to mt Fuji area, and we want to visit the forest too, however when I look up directions, it tells me when it's opened or closed. I know there are specific tourist spots there like caves and such, so is that what it's refering to? We just kinda wanna explore some rarely traveled woods. If it's just going to be a line of tourists from 9-4 then we'll go explore somewhere else I think.
