Hormones cured my insomnia
Hi all! I have had insomnia for about two months now. I graduated early and moved home and after being there a couple weeks and having no job I was so anxious and the insomnia started. Truthfully, I had genuine manic episodes when I couldn’t sleep. I thought this was just going to be my life and it was actual hell. I would sleep maybe 2 hours on a good night and went many days without sleep. I cried many times a day just out of fatigue and my brain wasn’t working. I felt horribly depressed and I knew that sleep was the main contributor.
I am so nervous to try new drugs due to fear of side effects, but I was desperate. I tried ambien but got horrible depressive thoughts. Tried trazodone but had a face rash. Tried ramelteon but had a rash too. Tried lorazepam, Xanax, melatonin, halcyon, Valium, you name it. But nothing worked, and I was almost to the point of just getting on Zoloft because all I could think about was sleep. Every night when it got dark my heart would pound and I would be in this state of panic that was basically conditioned into my body.
However, my parents knew a functional medicine doctor and he suggested progesterone. I thought it was bs and was skeptical care but was willing to try anything at this point. I started with 200mg but it was just another sleepless night. He said to up the dosage. In the end I needed 600mg progesterone and I literally fall asleep in about an hour. I cry happy tears thinking that this is the end and I just want to share because it’s also helped my anxiety. I’ve had anxiety all my life and it turned out to just be hormonal.
My current nighttime condition is 600mg progesterone, 100mg magnesium threonate, 25mg Benadryl an hour before bed. Along with sweet bee magnesium foot cream 30 mins before bed.
Who knows what exactly fixing me, but if progesterone could help someone I want to share.
