Pricing feedback needed: AI marketing video generator for TikTok/Reels (tiered + usage pricing)
Hey fellow indie hackers,
I'm building an app that generates hook-style videos for TikTok/Reels marketing. The format is pretty straightforward: first frame shows an attention-grabbing hook with overlaid text (think shocking statistic or bold claim), then transitions into your product demo. I'm working on adding talking head functionality in the future, but for now it's focused on this specific format that's been working well for conversions.
Current pricing structure:
- Free: 3 videos/month, basic hook templates, $0.99/additional video
- Basic: 20 videos/month, more hook templates, $0.49/additional video, $9.99/month
- Pro: 50 videos/month, all hook templates, $0.29/additional video, $19.99/month
My costs are mostly tied to video generation. I'm targeting small business owners, solopreneurs, and indie hackers who don't have time or budget for traditional video creation.
My questions:
- Will having a free tier attract too many non-serious users? I included it to let people test the product, but I'm worried about freeloaders.
- Is the jump from free to $9.99 too steep? Should I have something in between?
- Does the additional per-video cost make sense, or is it just adding complexity?
What would you do differently? Especially interested in hearing from folks who've done tiered + usage-based pricing before.
