“Loving Her from the Last Bench”

I sat in shadows, far behind, A world of dreams within my mind. She was a star, a perfect light, I was the moon, lost in her night.

Her smile would dance like sunlight’s gleam, A distant hope, a quiet dream. She ruled the class, the brightest spark, While I stayed hidden in the dark.

Books were her kingdom, grades her crown, I wore a frown, forever down. A boy too plain, too lost, too shy, Yet still, for her, my heart would fly.

Each glance she gave—a fleeting grace, A universe within her face. I traced her laugh, her voice, her ways, In secret thoughts on lonesome days.

I loved her more than words could say, Yet fear would steal my voice away. For who was I to even dare To dream that she might see me there?

Years rolled along, the bell would ring, Yet still, my heart would softly cling. A love unspoken, tears unseen, A story lost where I had been.

And when the final year was through, I left with all I never knew. Yet in my heart, she’ll always stay— The girl who took my breath away.
