My friend and I (both female) are traveling from Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh. Our itinerary includes Mumbai to Varanasi, then Ayodhya, and finally Mathura. We plan to book 2AC train tickets. Is it safe for two women to travel alone in the north? We plan on staying for a week. How cautious should we be?

EDIT - We are going after Holi in May.
