Fibroid-havers, What’s Your Story?

I’m in my early 30s. Always had bad periods. Mirena IUD was a miracle God-send for many years of period suppression.

Last year the strings of the IUD went missing. Ultrasound to verify placement shows 4cm intramural fibroid. I tell the nurse that I have a lot of pain, but she dismisses me because I can “control” it with ibuprofen. They decide it is best to leave the IUD.

This year, I start bleeding. Spotting, then light period, then real period, all in a span of consecutive months. The pain is unreal. It feels like I am hiding an apple in my pelvis. It wakes me from sleeping. I go to a new doctor’s office. Ultrasound this year, 7.5cm. Almost double the size.

Within the last two months I have gone from wanting sex daily, to weekly, to not at all. I don’t even want to masturbate because being turned on increases my pain. I am rarely comfortable standing, sitting, lying down, it doesn’t seem to matter. I am buying new pants because I’m so bloated and I hurt in the middle.

I’m now waiting for a consult with surgical GYN. I am hoping I can have a hysterectomy and be done with this.
