Is tree fern fiber critical/essential for soil mix?

Where I live, you absolutely can't get it, they haven't even heard of it, it's pretty much impossible. Amazon would bring very high shipping costs, but the tree fern fiber itself is unrealistically expensive. (I live in Hungary) Any ideas for alternatives?
