Prescribing meds to family members out of state
What is the consensus/common practice on this? My dad needs some anti-BP meds but his PCP charges for every damn little thing and refuses to do anything over patient portal. He's otherwise healthy and I'm IM so I feel comfortable managing his BP. We have the same last name and but we're in two diff states on the west coast. Do most people just do it and get away with it? Controlled substances are obviously a hard no but basic stuff like statins, BP, simple abx...?
Update: it seems like the consensus is a no, but if you’re a high risk taker then go for it. I’m not so I agree with that it’s not worth the risk and it’s just better to fork over the copay and have him see the PCP once to get a years supply and be done with it. Thanks all!!
