Homeschool costs

Hey everyone, I’m new to the group. I don’t have any experience with homeschooling but my boss at my last job homeschooled his kids and both are good kids and very smart (one in college, one out of college). I’ve got two little ones (2 yo) that will obviously begin their schooling in a few years so I’m curious to learn more from folks that are living and breathing homeschooling on a daily basis. I’ve done some online research and saw that the cost can be anywhere from $700-$1,800 per kid to homeschool. This is a pretty wide range. We live in the southeastern US , and am wondering what others have experienced in terms of annual cost of homeschooling per kid and what the biggest cost items are?
