What setup for Home Assistant server

Hey guys,

I am currently running Home Assistant as HA OS in a VirtualBox VM that is running on an old (12 years old) Debian laptop. This laptop also runs various Docker containers. I notice that the laptop is quite stressed and HA sometimes loses connection so that I cannot access my Dashboard.

The VM setup has annoyed me for a long time now (I am not sure if the laptop is the reason or whatever) so I would prefer to have a physical HomeAssistant setup.

So much to the current situation.

I would like to host a local voice assistant so I also need to have enough VRAM to host some Speech to text stuff and so on.

What do you guys think is better?

  1. Host HA on a Pi and have another powerful PC to host the speech to text stuff and every other thing that needs much compute power

  2. Build a powerful system to install HA OS on and also use for the voice assistant stuff.

  3. and other suggestions?

With option 1 I would be more flexible in using that hardware while option 2 would give me one less PC to power and so on.

Best wishes!
