Drugs in the German Reich?

I heard from a friend the other day that drugs influenced the success of the German Reich's campaigns during World War 2. Is this true? If so, how widespread were drugs and did it affect the successful growth of the German Reich's economy too? I always thought the Nazis were hardliners on drugs and alcohol. Were politicians or even Adolf Hitler on drugs throughout the time of the German Reich?
