First time placing in ranked halo infinite. How does the ranking work?

I just finally got around to trying ranked in halo infinite. It's my first time ever doing placements. I won all placements 5-0 on slayer and I was placed gold. How does it determine ranking for new players? Is it based on individual performance at all, or just win/ lose+ opponent difficulty?
