Good first rifle

Hello! I’m a new beginner ( very new, the only time I ever used a gun was an M4 in military basic training). It’s been a few months and I’m getting the bug to shoot again. What’d y’all recommend for a good first rifle? I’m not using it for anything serious, just bringing it to the range and have a good time. I do have a budget of $800, and preferably affordable ammo. Thank you!
