Santana auditioning for Fanny
This always kinda gets me. Whilst I do think Rachel was being her usual over-dramatic self, I can also understand why she was so upset. Santana had literally never shown an interest in Broadway and then all of a sudden decided to audition for the role that Rachel had dreamt of and worked so hard for? Yeah, it was only the understudy but that's besides the point. (I can't even see Santana in that role at all but that's another issue) Santana knew that Rachel wouldn't be okay with it and that's why she did it behind her back. She knew it was sly and underhanded. Yeah, sure, she's entitled to do whatever she wants as a grown adult trying to make it in the big city and she certainly has the talent but there are so many things that Santana could have done. For women that looked and sounded like her she would have had plenty of opportunities. I honestly believe she did it to wind up Rachel. Out of jealousy or resentment. She said herself that Rachel must have loved being a Broadway star and seeing Santana waitressing in a diner etc. I think Rachel was perfectly reasonable in her reaction given she was good enough to a) take Santana into her home after everything she had done to her in high school and b) was even nice enough to get her on the front cover of New York magazine, whether it was in the background or not. Rachel didn't have to do either of those things, she certainly had no obligation to become Santana's friend after being bullied by her for so many years. Rachel could be selfish and insufferable but I feel she was totally justified here. Santana was feeling lost and rejected and thought she would move in on Rachel's territory. She must have known Rachel would react badly.
It's a shame because I was actually enjoying the friendship they had developed.
