Finished Chuck Dixon’s full IDW run, ending with Special Missions. (2013) Started great, but ended directionless.

Reading Chuck Dixon’s final part of his GI Joe run.

It’s okay. The Zartan arc was good.

The biggest issue is during Season One, there was a Clear vision of where the story was going. By S2, editorial was demanding a crossover. And S3 (special missions) is just directionless. Tying up loose ends.

Hard Drive and Dial Tone get some great characters moments. Scarlett & Mainframe’s relationship was beyond boring. Issue 14 was a Low Light spotlight and that was excellent.

Bildocker was an interesting addition to the Joe team. Basically a noncombatant scrounger who was pulling strings to get the unit the weapons they needed. I’d like to see him return in more media.

I personally blame editorial more than Dixon. IDW really lost control of the narrative fast. There’s multiple inconsistencies in the titles from 2012-2015 and I’m not talking about just the retcons.

Special Missions was a 5/10 for me. Not horrible, but not great.

The biggest sin? The series got cancelled with Beachhead left behind in Russia.
