Adopted a german shepherd today!

Today my girlfriend and I adopted a german shepherd (Delta - 8 y/o) who's owner was no longer able to take care of her. It was either rehoming or to the shelter for her unfortunately. She had a brother but sadly, we are not able to take both.. I am however making an attempt for a family member to adopt him so we can keep them connected! The whole ride home she was extremely anxious (rightfully so), whining in my ear the whole way lol.. Once we made it home she started to seem a bit less panicky and more curious. She is very sweet and loves attention. It seems that whenever me or my girlfriend step out of the room she howls until the other returns! Its almost like she wants both of us to stay in the room. She also on and off whines/howls which I can understand, as her whole life has just been turned upside down. tips or advice on how to help her feel more comfortable? If anyone here has adopted an older shepherd, how long did it take for them to acclimate? Thanks all!

P.S. yes shes chunky lol! We are going to be working on her weight.
