[OS Spoilers] Something RY said makes me wonder if Bodhi...

Speculation with spoilers for Onyx Storm. If you haven't finished the book, you might want to stop reading.

So during the Onyx Storm press tour Rebecca mentioned that whoever the new brother is at the end of Onyx Storm, we can get a vague idea to their identity if we pay attention to which character is feeling like whatever they've been given is not enough.

In Onyx Storm, Bodhi emphatically voiced his displeasure with being Xaden's & Tyrrendor's heir and how this is a position he is being forced into only because of his blood relation to Xaden. And his opinion got ignored / dismissed by both Xaden and later Violet>! (when she ordered him to fly away and leave her with Theophanie bc the line of succession to Tyrrendor takes priority). !<Only for him to disobey both their wishes, and ultimately Tyrrendor's, seeing as he is >!at the battlefield!< by the end of the battle.

We also found out about how Bodhi's signet of being able to counter and thus neutralize other signets does not work on venin - but we weren't told if that's due to him lacking power or if it's due to the nature of magic venin wield. In a high tension situation, in battle, it's natural to think Bodhi will jump to the former conclusion.

What if Bodhi's dissatisfaction / feeling of being dealt an unfair hand extends beyond literal power? What if, for example, it extends to his bond with his cousin? Since Fourth Wing there has always been an emphasis on the bond Xaden shared with Liam. They'd been fostered together, grew up together. Xaden trusted Liam with Violet's life and by extension his own. Xaden considered Liam his brother in all the ways that matter.

Meanwhile... even through Violet's pov, Bodhi is left kind of on the backburner. Yes, undoubtedly, Xaden loves, respects, and trusts Bodhi. But I wonder if Bodhi ever struggled with feeling jealous at how close Liam and Xaden were. Because after all, Bodhi is the heir apparent to the Duke of Tyrrendor (Xaden), Bodhi is Xaden's only living (blood) family*, Bodhi is arugably the second biggest target among the Marked Ones.

*Of course, blood family isn't the end all be all and found family can forge just as strong (if not stronger) bonds of love and belonging. But in this case I mean it more as a thought born of an irrational feeling (jealousy and fear of being replaced, fear that one (Bodhi) doesn't matter).

Full quote from Rebecca on this topic:

I'd pay attention to whoever is missing at hand. I'd pay attention to whoever feels like whatever they've been given is not enough... which is always the case when turning venin. When you turn venin it's always because you need to reach power beyond your own, because you weren't given enough [power]. That's always the case.- Source.
