with the changing colors of the Irids?

I stumbled across something when googling >! what did the irids say about a cure !< when I was trying to remember the language while sleep trapped under my kid without my books close.

What came up surprised me - the study of Iridology

I have assumed up until now that based on the color changing abilities of these dragons, Irid was short for iridescent. BUT.....irid is ALSO another word for iris. Is RY distracting us from this with all the color conversation?!

Eye colors are clearly so important in these books. Ive been focused so much on colors, but now am feeling completely convinced there are hidden answers in understanding the actual functioning of the eye.

For example...irid is another word for iris. And what does the iris do? It controls how much light can enter the eye. OS Spoiler >! We learn in OS the Irids are able to manipulate bonds, bend magic and form it to how they want. Much like the iris controls the pupil. !<
