F-5 Family Series: N-156C Series, Army brats

Look at that gun

N-156 C series

After the Army’s ground combat flyoff had concluded Northrop started work on the variants needed so the aircraft could fulfill its intended role and for the Army to have options depending on how they ultimately decided the aircraft should be used. Ideally Northop hoped that it could fill many roles with the high shared commonality being a selling point. These variants were labeled C1-C5. C1 was essentially a baseline N-156F(F-5A). C2 and C4 were unarmed recon and spotter aircraft. C3 and C5 were Close Air Support (CAS) focused with C5 being the most technologically advanced being capable of all weather operations and rocking either, 2 20mm cannons as base version or a single M61 Vulcan Gattling Gun as well as improved rough field performance.

I chose to make the C2 and C5 versions. These showed the most interest as the C3 was very generic and the C4 was essentially the same as what would become the RF-5A which will come in a later release. The C2 had a interesting mount for its camera system, essentially a extended nose with a hemispherical camera system capable of scanning both up and down. I also could not resist doing the C5 due to it mounting a impressive cannon arrangement for the time and in a form that would have made a good CAS platform during the Vietnam War had it been procured.

N-156C5 doing a strafing run

As always im providing a bare and painted version of all aircraft as well as my custom fuel set.  I also have used parts from Hackerkm and Invalids parts and weapons mods.  It would be best to download them and all credit for those pieces belongs to them.
