What are these and are they hurting my FLF?

I just recently re-potted my FLF to which I am inordinately attached to. Today I was about to water it and saw that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of little gnats or something like that on it. You can see them here. Can someone please tell me what they are and if they are hurting my baby? The fly! Should I re-pot my tree or will they die off? The FLF looks fine but I am worried they might hurt it with enough time. I re-planted the FLF two weeks ago. I am thinking the soil had it as I had it in storage for about a year in my garage. Any help with this would be super appreciated.
