IRS Return to Office Seating
I’ve been with the IRS since June of 2024, and have been with my team since September of 2024. This entire time, I have been sitting in my assigned desk in our teams area every single day. The rest of the team teleworked 3 days a week, but I have always been 100% in office for personal reasons.
Got an email from my manager this morning saying that I’m being kicked out of the desk that I’ve been sitting in for the past 6 months, and will instead be put into a conference room with who knows how many others.
Not sure how I’ll even be able to do some of my job now, as that requires me going through stacks and stacks of physical returns. No space for the returns or to store the stamps/materials to do the work.
They’re “not sure” if they’ll have monitors set up in the conference room either which would mean I’d have to do all my work (6 windows at all times at minimum) on the single small laptop screen.
Thanks for letting me vent. This is complete bullshit.
EDIT: It’s only myself and the 2 other probationary employees on my team that are being moved to a conference room. The rest of the team gets to stay where they are.
EDIT 2: I am a Tax Examiner working on a Statutes team; a team that everyone has told me is very “essential”. I thought that would give me at least a little extra protection in all this, but I guess not.
