DoD probationary employee here. On a knife’s edge.
I never wanted a government job, but 6 months ago joined the civilian side of fleet readiness center, as it would always be needed for national defense. Last week our supervisor’s supervisor had a meeting with 23 apprentices and I basically stating, “we don’t know what will happen but you could be fired.”
Now today they’re having a sudden “leadership meeting” I’m assuming to determine our fate.
I understand government cutbacks, but cutting our defense?? This should be a matter of policy and not a whim. And why cut probation employees that are coming up to replace the old workforce? If they want to make an effective change, they can reduce annual budgets allocated to each base and let each base decide what civilian employees to keep.
Ultimately this is a DoD and OPM matter, but cutting civilian readiness might as well be cutting our military readiness cause aircraft don’t fix themselves.
