Are we on a sinking ship, or overreacting?

Opinions please!

On one end of the spectrum, I hear no one is safe and 3/4 of us are likely to lose our jobs at the drop of a hat. Possibly even through illegal procedures. Or best case scenario the bulk of us will get RIFed eventually. On the other, some of my coworkers really don’t think we’ll even see much of an impact on our agency/program because we aren’t in the targeted groups.

I’m so stressed out by all this bullshit, that I’m thinking about just leaving and doing something else. I know that will get some hate from “hold the line” types, and I have 17 years of service so trust me I don’t want to go. But this is killing my mental health and is any job really worth enduring all of this?

So- do you think the risk is being blown out of proportion and I’m likely to quit a “good government job” out of fear? Or is this actually a sinking ship and who could blame a few of us from bailing off and saving our sanity?

**For reference: I’m not in a “safe” program like military, fire or LEO, but I’m also not in a risky category like probie, DEI, or an agency the administration seems to have a particular grudge against. Just land management, mid ranked, and my program happens to make money for the agency instead of spending it.
