Schedule A excepted vs competitive service?

Hi all! Trying to clear up a confusion about how schedule A works and what's considered excepted or competitive service. So I know you can be directly appointed via schedule A, bypassing the normal hiring process, and that puts you in the excepted service. But if you apply to a position via USAJobs and use schedule A authority to be eligible for a position open to individuals with disabilities, is that considered competitive or excepted service? This was never made fully clear to me and it's suddenly become very relevant. Thanks!
