New atypical hyperplasia diagnosis
Hello! I am a 27F diagnosed with atypical endometrial hyperplasia by in-office biopsy in august. We’ve been treating it with mirena IUD. Unfortunately my follow up biopsy is still showing atypical hyperplasia so I’m going in for a hysteroscopy/D&C next month. I’m kinda freaking out and the anxiety about this diagnosis is eating me alive. (I know I don’t technically have a cancer diagnosis so I hope it’s ok if I post in here. Please let me know if it’s not appropriate.)
Has anyone had a diagnosis of atypical hyperplasia on biopsy and then found out there was cancer after d&c? I read a study that the odds of this are fairly high, around 30-40% if I remember correctly.
I’m also wondering what additional testing/imaging your doctors ordered for you after your initial diagnosis? Like ultrasound, MRI, CT, any bloodwork? I’ve had no other testing aside from the two biopsies.
I’ve developed a new pelvic pain over the last month or so that’s really starting to bother me. It’s a pain that I’ve never had before and is pretty constant and is more noticeable with movement. It seems to be getting progressively worse. When I brought this up at my last obgyn appointment they were kinda dismissive about the pain and tried to say it was just menstrual cramps when I don’t even get a period… Anyway the pain is heightening my anxiety and I just have a bad gut feeling more is going on that we can’t see. I plan to bring this up at my pre-op appointment and request some imaging, if at least to give me some peace of mind. I’m worried they will say no and to hurry up and wait more. I just can’t handle waiting around, I would much prefer to be proactive about my health.
I would love to hear more about your experiences and advice 🫶
