Urge the Canadian Government to Lift Tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles
Here's a petition for all the Chinese EV enthusiasts: https://chng.it/d9MBgGK4ZM
I’m a passionate environmental advocate living in Canada. Like many other Canadians, I aspire to contribute to the green initiative by purchasing an electric vehicle (EV). However, the high financial cost, starting at around 60,000 CAD, renders this green decision out of reach for many in the middle class.
Exorbitant tariffs on foreign EVs, particularly Chinese vehicles, contribute significantly to these costs. Chinese EVs could offer more economical and sustainable choices compared to the expensive options currently dominating the market, such as Tesla. However, the 100% tariff in place creates a substantial barrier for these vehicles to enter Canadian markets.
As per data from Natural Resources Canada, transportation accounts for 25% of total greenhouse gas emissions, and this figure could be lowered drastically by the adoption of EVs across the country. In a time when Canada is striving to meet its CO2 reduction goals for 2030, the removal of this tariff could play a vital role.
Thus, we petition the Canadian Government to reconsider their current tariff policies on Chinese electric vehicles. Reducing these tariffs not only promotes affordability for middle-class individuals like myself, but it also fosters fair competition amongst car manufacturers, potentially lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and aligns with Canada's green initiative. Let's create a more accessible route for Canadians to support clean transportation - please sign this petition
