I upgraded to Duolingo Pro/premium about a year ago, why should I renew vs free?

I usually use this app to brush up on what Spanish that I do use in order to progress. It's not very structured but it satisfies the itch to start learning again, and that's primarily why I use it. I'm not sure what happened, but I bought the pro version so I wouldn't be inundated with constant interruptions & advertisements.

Now, 2025, out of nowhere or should I say unprompted, every lesson is ended by 6 interruptions it seems. One for this Duolingo Max thing (which wtf?? I thought I paid for the pro version when I bought a year last may), another to try it for free, along with the app coercing me into networking with random people I have no association with or at least trying to multiple times in a row. I don't want a rival, I'm not on here to meet local singles I just want to practice with something more immersive than flashcards.

Not only that, but the "new exercises" that are being promoted within my little Spanish tree, are AI. It is Incredibly immersion breaking and it kills the vibe SO HARD. It feels like I'm going from doing something productive to being stuck on hold.

I had absolutely no idea that my paid version of the product was going to be downgraded to lure be into being an even larger bag holder, is there a way to turn all of that off? Any other app recommendations that aren't going to cheat their contract with me in a mere 12 month span?
