Have I been ripped off? Visiting Doctor

I've recently relocated to Dubai and work haven't yet finalised my health insurance. I was feeling unwell today at work, and so came home and arranged for a visiting doctor to come out for just 200 AED.

When the doctor and the nurse arrive they take some blood, do some tests and checks, and tell me I have tonsillitis and dehydration. He says he's going to treat me with an IV, antibiotics, and steroids or something like that. He says the treatment will be done today and tomorrow morning, and will cost between 6000 and 7000 AED.

I'm really unsure at this quote, but don't have anyone I can check with in that moment at all. He says if we don't do it now, I'll end up in hospital and the cost will be higher. I reluctantly agree, and now have just finished my first round of IV for tonsillitis at a cost of 7000 AED, 6800 more than I anticipated paying.

Would going into some kind of clinic have been the better option currently being uninsured? I'm going to try and cancel tomorrow's IV drip and see what happens (if I can get some money back).

Any advice or similar stories please share so I feel less embarrassed. Thank you!
