I drove by myself!!!
I have been a long time lurker in this sub. It felt so great to read through everyone's success stories and that gave me a lot of encouragement. Definitely made me feel less alone in my driving anxiety. I got my license right before the pandemic hit and then I ended up not driving for 4 years. I was already an anxious driver and this huge gap in driving made me feel like I was back to square 1. Earlier this year I slowly started by doing small 5-10 min drives with my husband in the passenger seat. Slowly worked up to driving for half an hour or so. I got to a point where I felt comfortable driving to familiar places with my husband next to me. Today I went to the grocery store all by myself! I even managed to park between two cars and within the lines. This was one of my biggest fears starting out. I'm still a long way from driving to and from work on a mini highway and in heavy city traffic, but it finally feels like there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Thanks to people in this sub for being so supportive, all the tips and success stories, and truly understanding what driving anxiety feels like! If I can do it, you can too!!
