Recurrent UTI 9y pittie
Just curious if anyone has had a fur baby with recurrent UTIs? My girl was diagnosed with a “massive” UTI at the end of February. I noticed it when she started having accidents in the house and then they had had blood clots in them. The vet did an ultrasound and there were no stones or kidney masses. She stated that my girl has an “outie vulva” — basically that her vulva is recessed and there is skin around it, causing her not to get adequate air and freshness around it. She said that with this cosmetic feature, it would be common for her to get UTIs. That being said, she is 9 and the first I have had her treated for. She stated that we could have plastic surgery to the the skin around it lifted which would help keep it clean, but the idea of having my almost 10 year old dog have vaginal reconstructive surgery just doesn’t sit well with me 😅 They gave her an antibiotic and she stopped having accidents and all is well. I missed my one month follow-up and honestly she was doing fine so I didn’t think about it.
Today we noticed she was having accidents again, we and again I noticed the stronger smell and blood clots. I suppose it’s possible it didn’t heal completely and took time to get bad again, or it did clear up and now is back.
Just wondering if anyone has been through anything similar and any tips to try to keep these under control? Any insight beyond appreciated. ❣️
*ETA I will absolutely be going back to the vet for more antibiotics and treatment, but looking for other remedies as well.
