My lost dog came back and I’m really stressed

Update: He is home safe! He’s lost a bit of weight but is otherwise healthy! He’s also favoring his hips, but the shelter believes it’s due to old age. They said a Good Samaritan heard what they thought was a car accident outside, went out and saw him in the road. The shelter examined him and don’t believe he was hit by a car. He got a new bed and toys and is currently napping on the couch with my partner. He is acting like he never even left lol. I was so happy to see him! Thank you everyone for the reassurance. I think everything’s going to be alright!

Edit: Thank you all so much for the reassurance. I don’t currently have the capacity to respond to everyone, but I promise to update when he’s home. I think I just got overwhelmed, but I’m going to go get him and figure it out from there. ❤️

My bulldog was let out of my yard by a delivery driver almost 2 years ago. It was a horrible time and I felt like I failed to keep him safe. We searched for months and had no lead except that a man was seen trying to coax him into a truck.

After a year, my partner convinced me that we should look into getting another companion for our other dog, who has separation anxiety. We brought home a puppy. Our house and yard are pretty small, but we make it work.

I just got a call this morning that our bulldog was found and is at a shelter. I am waiting for them to open so I can go get him. I am relieved and happy, but also extremely stressed. Three dogs feels like a lot. My partner is chronically ill so I am the breadwinner and do the majority of the housework. The house is already frequently messy with 2 dogs and our bulldog was notoriously messy and slimy. He’s also 8 now and I’m anticipating that medical bills are going to ramp up soon. I feel so overwhelmed. Rehoming him is out of the question. I am getting him back. Has anyone else ever gone through this? I feel like a bad person that I just heard that my dog is safe and I am already thinking about the negatives.
