Any idea what happened to this chicken salad?

I traded with a guy on Reddit and the dano just didn't work. He paid me for my trouble and apologized but I thought I'd take it apart and see if anything obvious was wrong. Well it is basically Frankenstein. Any idea wtf happened here ? That little PCB to the left appears to be completely aftermarket.
