They took my original id and gave me the duplicate, does it do any harm?

I had lost my original id card, filled for duplicate and found it later on- then I went for the clearance form today and they took my original card and cut it, and gave me tge duplicate. Now does that create any nuisance or complications in the long run? Such as the fact that duplicate id would create a problem in me getting the degree and stuff?
