android auto / contact list

So I am looking into scaling down as much as possible on google tools
I am going to use Proton as daily driver. (I know they are a little unstable - I have that in mind as well )
And I have a few issues.
1: I need the Android Auto which I can't make to work without using a gmail
2: A contact app that can handle around 250 contacts and possible sync them into a cloud solution.
any suggestions to get i to work?
