I’m New to Deafheaven But I Feel Something Special About These Guys That I Haven’t Felt About A Band In Years
I wanted to share my recent experience of becoming totally immersed in the works of Deafheaven. I am high as fuck listening to New Bermuda on my couch as I type this.
I’ve been listening to metal for the better part of my life at this point. Since high school in the 2007-09 era of metalcore and my tastes have only grown and expanded over time. Black metal had been one of the last sub genres that I didn’t really have a band I liked. I recent got into Demiser but they’re more thrash with black tendencies. I am on the website sputnikmusic quite often for my music news and releases since there is a huge metal presence there if anyone is not familiar with that site in recommend it. when Ordinary Corrupt Human Love came out it was all over that site so I gave it a go and just couldn’t get into it. That’s about my extent of Deafheaven exposure prior to the release of Magnolia.
When Magnolia was released a few weeks ago I saw it posted on Sputnik and the reaction was very positive so I checked it out. I was immediately floored. Something had clicked in my brain after all these years and I finally got it. I think Magnolia being a little more streamlined compared to their previous releases helped ease me in.
Fast forward 2 weeks and I have not wanted to listen to anything else but New Bermuda, Sunbather, Ordinary Human Concept on repeat. Roads to Judah has gotten a few spins but not as many. I am struggling with Infinite Granite but that’s a discussion for another post.
These three albums have completely overtaken my life. My podcast listening at work has suffered because I’m on Luna for the third time that day. In the mornings I’m blasting Sumbather and I am not a music during the morning commute person.
I’ve got most the releases on vinyl now and a Sunbather hat and I feel like I’m only getting started.
I’ve recently switched to Apple Music from Spotify and holy fuck these guys sound SO much better on there especially the AirPod pros.
Life’s been tough these last few weeks here in the USA but these guys have really helped me through it.
I don’t have many friends that share my taste in music but I really needed to talk to someone about this band.
Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from a lot of you!
